At the age of 8 Brian won a scholarship to the Royal Academy
Of Music to study violin, voice, and harmony. At 17, gained
entrance to university to study architecture. This was where
he developed his love for jazz and taught himself to play
the double bass, to help him finance his studies, he also
set up a jazz club at college.
He joined Sandy Brown's band
and also played with many other notable musicians including;
Louis Armstrong, Trummy
Young, Ed Hall & Lionel
Hampton.
Brian featured in the melody maker polls, and broadcast
regularly and was also in demand for recording studios,
He then stepped back from the jazz scene, aged 24, having
qualified as an architect and concentrated on a successful
business career enabling him to retire to Spain in 1983.
1990 appeared on
jazz programs in Spain on local radio.
1991 organized jazz
concerts & venues for visiting Artists and began playing
the double bass again.
1992 founded the
"jazz appreciation society" of Andalucia, with
Swedish singer Alice Babs (a singer With Duke Ellington).
He started to produce, present & engineer his jazz
programs "All that jazz" on radio Onda Cero, which
has a listenership covering both the Costa del Sol and Costa
Brava. As well as over 200 linked stations throughout Spain.
Also in 1992 he started doing his interviews with top jazz
musicians. Initially with old friends like Lionel Hampton.
& Mercer Ellington.
He then invested in a recording studio for his home. This
enabled him to produce top quality programs for the 6 hours
of air time each weekend.
1996 interviewed
34 top jazz artists on the S.S. Norway jazz cruise. Including;
, Al Grey, Illinois Jacquet, Milt Jackson, Joe Williams,
Shirley Horn, Monty Alexander and Bud Shank.
